Peak Climbing in Nepal

Since 1978 the government of Nepal has authorized the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) to issue permit for small scale attempts on 18 peaks of 5,587m to 6,654 m ranges in the Khumbu, Langtang, Annapurna and Manang regions. Those who would like to climb these trekking peaks must fulfill certain requirements by paying a fee and submitting an application. The permit is valid for one month for a group of 10 people. An extra fee is payable if the group exceeds 10 climbers. Some of the trekking peaks are technically very difficult to climb. Even ‘small’ peaks are much higher than any mountain in North America.

Trekking peak climbing trips we offer are run in the popular trekking areas with relatively easy access to the mountains. Most of these trips can be completed within a short period of time. For instance Naya Kanga in the Langtang Valley can be completed in less than twenty days with plenty of time allocated for acclimatization.

Whereas on the Pisang & Chulu trip, you need to attempt two summits in one month with an itinerary that takes you to the famous Annapurna Circuit trek. In the Everest region the popular peaks are Mera Peak in the remote Hinku Valley, Island Peak, Khongma-tse and Lobuche peaks near the Everest Base Camp area.

Though most of these climbs require little or no previous mountaineering experience, it is essential that participants should be in excellent physical condition and have some outdoor backgrounds. Knowledge of use of ice-axe, crampons and ropes is a must.
